Fanart about Mad Scientists
I've not really been drawn into many web comics. The only two I've so far actually liked have been about Mad Scientists.

Here's Agatha from Girl Genius. I do love her. =)

This was inspired from a quote from someone somewhere about flamethrowers, something to the tune of that the very existence of flamethrowers implies that someone somewhere one day thought, 'Boy, I'd like to light those people over there on fire, too bad they're so far away.' Which is sick and twisted, but we like that. ;)

These guys are from Miracle of Science, which has charming characters who seem to be over the age of 30, and a very intriguing storyline, and Mad Scientists. I love this one, too. It's sort of like what you'd get if Varley did romantic comedy.

And the other thing I'm loving these days is Fullmetal Alchemist, also chock full of Mad Scientists. Everybody likes Mad Scientists! =)

You're coming late to the FMA fandom. ;) But the sane people in it will welcome you warmly.

Girl Genius, btw, did not start as a webcomic. It used to be strictly paper.

What, really? You think? Do they not do the I'm-going-to-pretend-fanthings-don't-exist-cause-I-have-to thing that Ms. Bujold and others do?

They have to do that for fanfic, but art? They've published some of the sketches in the backs of the original phys-comics, IIRC.

You could drop a note onto [info]kajafoglio's journal and ask if they're allowed to see non-plot-filled sketches.

Eee, I feel shy about that. Waving fanart under an author's nose somehow feels dangerous to me- unless they have clearcut fanart-is-okay policies, like Miracle of Science does. I just don't know about that.

It's awesome!

FanFic is what our attorney has told us we must not read. He said nothing about fanart. Heh. I actually have a fan art section of the Web site, but I haven't gotten off my * and posted anything new for a while.

Thank you!

Considering everything in http://groups.yahoo.com/group/girlgenius/files/ -- and yes, Kaja and some of the associated people are on the list -- and that they have a fan site FAQ (http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/info/fansites.php ) which includes: Please have fun and let us have a look! Thank you for reading.

...I think they'd be tickled.

No, wait, I know they'd be tickled. http://www.girlgeniusonline.com/fun/fanart.php

I guess this might be late in coming, but the Folios say on their site that they love fanstuffs. I'm not surprised, any form of imitation is bound to stroke the fragile artists ego. While we're on it, and assuming that you care, I absolutely LOVE your stuff, and have read and reread your Escaflowne and HP stuff.

Another note on Narbonic: the Foglios have a short story, called Fan Fiction, posted, written by Shaenon Garrity, the creator of Narbonic.

I checked Amazon and it looked like they still had some as well, though I'd prefer to buy straight from the Foglios. But since they're sold out, I'm going to check Borders tonight on the off-chance they'll have them, otherwise buy them from Amazon here soon.

[info]elfs once commented that if he won the lottery he was going to buy a flamethrower and get Sigourney Weaver to autograph it. :-)

Mad Scientists are fun.

I need to get around to making a sign

MAD SCIENTIST

And another somethingf like this:

SEEKING
MAD SCIENTIST

Yes, I'm weird.

Have a look at Narbonic. Mad scientists, clones of mad scientists, isolation of the "madness" gene, genetically engineered super-intelegent gerbils, utterly mad henchmen (well, henchwoman...), the Dave Conspiracy, forensic linguists... And Shaenon Garrity is a wonderful person underneath her own mad artistry.

On Sundays she used to run a "Penny Dreadful" Jules Verne-esque tale of late 19th century mad scientists. I think there's a link to a snippet of one.

Narbonicon IV will be in Minneapolis this year... Last year the event featured a trip to The Museum of Questionable Medical Devices, a repository of items like the Phrenology Machine and a Violet Ray Machine...

I LOVE Full Metal Alchemist! Have you seen the OVA, there's one where "you" are a new state alchemist, and one where the actors are going out to what seems to be a sushi place after filming...you might try Tsukiyomi Moon Phase, 25 episodes, I really liked it.

Wow is the only thing I could say after finishing Four Minutes. One because it was so well planned and well written but also because you were unable to write anymore. I must say that I wish that there was a bunch more because I could sit and read it for ages. I know that it has probably been ages sense you have written the previous pages but I'm always late to find the good stuff and only happened to find this by chance when looking up pictures of Millerna on Google. I am rather sorry that you did not get to finish telling your story about Millerna and Dryden and the developing side story with Allen, Eries, and Gadeth. I would love to read more of the story if you have posted it anywhere else you can email me at heidishowgirl@hotmail.com thanks and love the story ^^
